Very clean and simple solution.

Am I right in thinking that the documents area is a publishing area rather than a document drafting / development area, i.e. something like OneDrive, Dropbox or Google Drive might still be the place shared development of documents takes place?

Yes. Most people/orgs already have ways of working so there’s no need to complicate.

What is there is for the purposes of demonstration, there are other options available.
