Putting people in charge of budgets: A free introduction to Participatory Budgeting (PB).
Co-hosted by PB Partners, the Democratic Society and Involve.
Since it first came to the UK over 10 years ago Participatory Budgeting has evolved from a way to distribute small grants within communities into a well-articulated methodology for public sector commissioning and open government, that puts citizens in the driving seat.
Major cities, such as Paris, Madrid and New York have successfully engaged thousands of residents in directly spending millions of pounds per year. Glasgow and Edinburgh are well on the way to matching these pioneers. But London, and other major English cities, lag some way behind. Join us to find out how participatory budgeting can be used to empower and transform communities.
This event is suitable for public sector commissioners, researchers, local authority engagement workers and community activists considering PB for the first time, or looking to extend their existing knowledge.
Facilitated by leading Participatory Budgeting practitioners from PB Partners, this event will be essential learning for anyone with an interest in meaningful citizen empowerment.
